If you are married to a Thai then you can apply for a marriage visa for Thailand. This visa is good for 90 days on entering Thailand and can be extended for 1 year while in Thailand. These are the basics!

The marriage visa for Thailand was created for the purposes of visiting your Thai family and also to stay in Thailand with your Thai wife. This visa is valid for 90 days once entering Thailand and can be extended for a period of 1 year once in the country. This extention however has a number of rules to it. Firstly you need to prove again that you are in a valid marriage with a Thai citizen and you also need to prove an income source. This can be done wither by way of showing your monthly income from abraod such as a verified pension or a lump sum investment in a Thai bank. If your monthly income does not meet the minimum financial requirements then you need to look as a combination of a monthly income and a fixed deposit in a Thai bank.

You can apply for a work permit once you have a marriage visa however once the work permit is cancelled so is your marriage visa and you need to start the process again.
